Characteristics
INNOVATIVE: The main goal of the course is to analyze language, and to learn techniques and applications for language processing with computers. Among the applications that are developed in the language industries, we can mention the following:
- Edition and processing of texts (spelling and grammatical correctors, dictionary-aids)
- Information Retrieval and Extraction for big collections of texts
- Machine Translation
- Natural Language Interfaces
- Speech Processing
INTERDISCIPLINARY: Five departments and the same number of knowledge-branches have joined in the coordination of this program: Computer Languages and Systems; Basque Philology; Electronics and Telecommunications; Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence; and Architecture and Technology of Computers.
Bringing together experts from different departments and universities, we have integrated in a coherent way 5 profiles in a single program:
- Linguist specialized in speech processing
- Linguist specialized in written-text processing
- Engineer specialized in speech processing
- Engineer specialized in written-text processing
- Engineer specialized in empirical methods for language processing
DIFFERENT LOCATIONS: Students will have the chance to receive courses in Leioa, Donostia, Bilbo, Gasteiz, and Eibar (the latter in the UEU center). Together with the timetable, the venue of each course is given, but in any case it will be determined for the best convenience of teachers and students.
